Transparent smartphone management to Boston Scientific in Italy

Structural change made easy

With the comprehensive support of CHG-MERIDIAN, Boston Scientific Italy restructured its internal asset management and transferred 300 smartphones into a transparent lifecycle in just a short space of time.

Success Story Boston Scientific mobile phone

Boston Scientific is a leading international healthcare technology manufacturer with a presence in 115 countries. Around the world, 41,000 employees are working on medical solutions for 30 million patients a year. In line with its own corporate mission to offer customers highly efficient technologies at a low cost, Boston Scientific Italy restructured its internal asset management. With the comprehensive support of CHG-MERIDIAN, the company transferred 300 smartphones into a transparent lifecycle in just a short space of time.

Quickly connected at home

The IT department at Boston Scientific in Italy centrally manages 450 mobile devices, 350 phones, and 250 tablets. The company uses innovative directory services and access management programs to register devices, implement policies, and take security precautions. “Unfortunately, our system had some minor flaws, which meant that requested equipment was not available in time, and damage to devices was reported too late,” explains Andrea Savariano, IT-Specialist at Boston Scientific Italy. “It became clear that we had to rethink the entire asset management process. Especially as we were faced with an additional challenge in 2020, with 90 percent of our workforce working from home.”

According to Boston Scientific, the success of CHG-MERIDIAN’s solution is that it takes the entire lifecycle into account, from picking and packing to create customer-specific shipments through to distribution, fault management, and returns processing. The leasing and service solution agreed with Boston Scientific initially comprised 300 high-spec smartphones. Most were sent to private addresses, all securely packaged with chargers, phone cases, and shatterproof screen protectors. CHG-MERIDIAN rose to this logistical challenge and provided the users with the information they needed to get started. “We worked together to produce a straightforward flyer that explained step-by-step what services are included with the smartphone, and what employees should do with their old device,” says Savariano, outlining the efficient approach.

Flexible and straightforward asset management

Once the smartphones had been rolled out, the second phase of the solution was implemented using the T tesma technology management system. It contains the assets’ technical and commercial data, thus enabling Boston Scientific to improve process efficiency and reduce costs. All data required for administration of the assets is collated and displayed transparently and clearly, including registration and contractual data, asset serial numbers, and relevant user information. In addition to accessing this base data, Boston Scientific can also track assets to see whether they are currently in for repair or need to be replaced, for example. A data interface to existing applications and the option to create invoices and produce custom reports are also part of the package. “Using tesma is simple and intuitive, and provides a highly flexible solution that we have adapted to our requirements. All information is available at a glance in a very short time, which has greatly improved the transparency of our administration,” says Savariano.

Our employees really appreciated that their devices and all necessary instructions were sent directly to their homes. The tesma system’s exceptionally clear layout and the ease of accessing data also won high praise.”
